What Happens When the Lights Go Out?

Paranormal investigation looks a little different from what you see on television.

There's plenty of time spent in dark rooms asking questions, but there's also research, observation, documentation, troubleshooting, waiting, listening, reviewing, and sometimes discovering that the strange noise everyone heard has a perfectly ordinary explanation.

Every location and every investigation is different.

Before the Investigation

The investigation begins before we ever turn on a recorder.

Learning about the location, its history, and the experiences people have reported helps investigators understand what they're walking into and where to focus their attention.

Once onsite, the team becomes familiar with the property and the surrounding environment before the investigation begins.

During the Investigation

Investigators work throughout the location using audio, video, environmental equipment, and other investigative techniques to document what happens.

Sometimes something happens immediately.

Sometimes you spend a lot of time waiting.

And sometimes the most interesting moment of the night isn't discovered until later.

That's part of the process.

After the Lights Come Back On

The end of the night isn't necessarily the end of the investigation.

Recordings, photographs, video, notes, and other information collected during the investigation may be reviewed afterward. Something that seemed unusual in the moment may have a simple explanation. Something nobody noticed at all may suddenly stand out.

The goal isn't to make every experience paranormal.

It's to take a closer look at what happened and determine what, if anything, remains unexplained.
